SUNBURST STOLE and/or SCARF

SUNBURST STOLE and/or SCARF
copyright © 07/06/06 Dot Matthews

Skill: intermediate…this is an easy pattern to do but I rated it intermediate because you need to know how to do a treble crochet.

Stitches: chain (ch); single crochet (sc); double crochet (dc); treble crochet (tr);
Abbreviations used: sk – skip; ea – each; sts – stitches; sp(s) – space(s);
Here's a link to Annie's Attic stitch guide
http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/content.html?type_id=S

Yarn: any medium weight yarn will work. I used Mainstays, Walmart's brand, now discontinued.

Stole used 10 oz of mainstays (I had 2 8oz skeins)
Scarf used 4 oz of mainstays (about ˝ of 1 8oz skein)

Hooks: L/11-8 mm for starting chain and K/10.5-6.50 mm for pattern.

Gauge: I don't know, didn't think it would matter much since they're just rectangles and you can make them as long and wide as you want.

Pattern is worked in multiple of 18 + 8

With L hook, ch 224. Switch to K hook

ROW 1: dc in 8th ch from hook
*ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * to end. turn

ROW 2: ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and 2 ch throughout), sk first dc, dc in next dc,
*ch 4, tr in next 4 dc,
ch 4, dc in next dc,
ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row. turn

ROW 3: ch 5, sk first dc, dc in next dc
*ch 4, sc in next 4 tr
ch 4, dc in next dc,
ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row. turn

ROW 4: ch 5, sk first dc, dc in next dc
*ch 4, sc in next 4 sc
ch 4, dc in next dc,
ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row. turn

ROW 5: repeat row 4

ROW 6: ch 5, sk first dc, dc in next dc
*ch 2, (tr in next sc, ch 2) 4 times
dc in next dc
ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row. turn

ROW 7: ch 5, sk first dc, dc in next dc
*ch 2, (dc in next tr, ch 2) 4 times,
dc in next dc,
ch 2, dc in next dc. Repeat from * to end. Place last dc in 3rd ch of beginning ch of previous row.

SCARF: skip to edging

STOLE: repeat rows 2 thru 7 3 more times or until stole is as wide as you want

EDGING
ROUND 1: sc evenly around as follows: 2 sc in ends of ea row on short sides, 2 sc in ea ch space on the long sides and have 7 sc in ea corner. Place a marker in 4th sc in corners to mark center. Join in first sc. do not turn

ROUND 2: ch 1, sc in ea sc around. 3 sc in marked stitches. Move markers to center st of the 3 sc. Join in first sc.

ROUND 3 – 4: repeat round 2.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

I have boxes of crochet books and patterns, but found your sight through HappyHookers and love your designs. I made ponchos back in the day and am glad they are back in fashion. Plan to do several of your designs for my daughters-in-law. Thank you for sharing.

I recently came across your sites while searching for crochet patterns. Thank you. I have been crocheting for years!!!! but still enjoy finding new ideas. Due to being diagnosed with Post-Polip Syndrome my life has had to slow down (I don't know how). Crocheting helps me keep my sanity, along with four granddaughters who love Omi's projects. Thank you again for your ideas. I've already made the ditty bag, which my 4 year old grandson uses for his small toys. I would like to stay in touch. You take care.

Your Elegant Lace Poncho is truly lovely. I didn't want to make or wear a poncho until I saw this one. Now I am anxious to get started. Thanks for your generosity.

i have been doing some of your designs, and i must say you have the gift of art. You know not only to create designs but you share them as well. All the patterns i have tried are great, by the way. And are easy to follow, even if i'm only a beginner. Thank you so much. And God Bless you!
