Just finished this cute hat in cotton for my trip to Tulsa in July. It only took about two hours, super fast gratification! I love patterns like this. I added a couple more rows to the brim to hide my nose from the sun. It will be a big hit I am sure! THANKS so much for your site. I love your stuff!

Hi Dot Just thought that given your patterns reach us here in Australia & I LOVE some of your stuff, you might like to knw that our crochet hooks are mm (millimetres), not letters & I don't have a clue what 'ww' or 'worsted weight' or 'sport weight' yarn etc. is. We measure in 'ply'. 3,4,5,8,12,20 ply. Can you please show both measures in your patterns if possible. Thanks Jacqui

Hi Lisa, thanks for letting me know. I enjoy seeing the hats made by the hat along, you are all doing a great job with your projects. I didn't know this one had been picked as one of your projects, but I'm delighted to know that. It's always been one of my favorites. See you in the 'ville.

Hi Dot,

I'm in a Hat a Week crochetalong over at crochetville, and this is the second hat we'll be making from your patterns. The first week most of us made the UBW, but have renamed it CAW (Cute and Warm). Just thought I'd let you know how much we like your work.

Hi Linda, I'm so glad you found my site and I had something here that you could use. I hope you enjoy the patterns and I'd love to see pictures of your finished projects if you would like to share them with me. Tell your mom I said hi and keep warm. Happy holidays and happy hookin'!

Hi, Dot, I just happen to come across your page browsing the net looking for a crotchet hat for my mom. She took t he scissors to her hair and cut her hair too short! Although it looks kindda cute, it is now winter and she to keep her head warm. I just wanted to say I think your site is really nice. I found the hat she will need to keep her warm and am thinking of making the others you have in pretty colors. I think you are a great person to create a site for us crocheters with so many ideas and beautiful projects to crochet. Just want to say Thanks.

Hi Jen, thank you, I'm glad you like my patterns. I corrected the link on the child's sassy pattern. It should take you to the pattern now, instead of the photobucket. I'd love to see pictures of you, your brother and your 3 year old wearing your Sassy Hats.

HI there, i love this hat, in fact I have it on now! And my little brother wants me to make him one. I also want to make one for my 3 year old daughter, but I can't find the pattern for the child sassy. When I click the pic it takes me to a gallery. Can you help me out? Thanks,
I just love your patterns and I tell everyone to come to your site and pick out something for me to make them!

Thanks for the information, Mary, I'll have to check this book out. I'd love to be able to make the brims on my hats stiffer. Happy hookin'!

I think you'd love the book "Hard Crochet" that was published back in the 1970's. Author was a man--Mark Dittrick or Ditterick or something like that. Local public library has a copy here. Still for sale-search Internet. He figured out how to make hats that would stay stiff. Even crocheted wastebaskets and brief-cases!

Thanks, Charl. Yes, I think they would be too soft to hold the shape. You're too kind with your compliments. I'd love to see a picture of your daughter wearing her new Sassy.

thanks dot for such a fast response. i get it ... wool ease, encore and such would be too soft to hold the shaping, right? this will look great on my daughter ... thanks again ... p.s. you are one of the best crochet designers i have seen imho.

Hi Charl. Thank you, this is one of my favorites. I'm not sure about the yarn you want to use. It will probably work. I used Red Heart Super Saver on mine, so you can judge by that. You do need a yarn with a little stiffness to it in order to get the brim to hold.

i love this hat -- it has flare. i want to make it for my daughter. what type and weight yarn do you recommend? i was thinking of wool ease, would that be too soft?

Hi Ann, I'm glad you like my patterns, but I'm thinking you have me and someone else mixed up. I don't have any IV coverings pictured on my site. Your question about modifying my patterns to accomodate IVs is a valid one, though and I'd say if you plan to donate something you've made using one of my patterns, you should modify it in any way you need to to make it work for the recipient. As long as you're not trying to sell my patterns or claim them as your own, anything goes as far as charity is concerned. My blessings to you for your charity work.

I have written before and love your patterns. I just have to try this one - even though it makes me mad when I deliver them to som charity organization - I want to keep them all for myself! My question - I spoke to my granddaughters - who are both in the nursing profession - about the IV cover shown on your site. They loved the concept, but couldn't use them because there is no way of removing them without disturbing the IV tubes and/or needles. Would modifying them to be open and tie on violate your copyright? These would be strictly for charity use. Thank you

Duh, there it is, right at the top of the pattern, that's what I get for waking up at 0300 instead of sleeping like any sane person would. Just had hats on the brain I guess. :)

You are just so talented. I wish I could do what you do. But if you'll write it, I'll make it. I plan to make this hat in a ww cotton or cotton blend. Thank you for your generosity.

Thank you, Diane. I've never used sport weight cotton or cotton-ease so I'm not sure how to write a pattern for them. I believe that Lion Brand Cotton would work with this pattern.

Cool hat! I will have to try this. Any chance you could come up with something similar in sport weight cotton or Cotton-ease? It is very hot, humid and windy here in Omaha so I need something breezy to keep the sun out of my eyes and cover up my sweaty and/or frizzy hair. LOL. Big order, huh.
Thanks for all the patterns you share. More usable patterns than most books you see.

Diane
