Hi Pat, thank you. I'm glad you like the poncho. You need to slip stitch in the ch-2 sp of the v stitch to get in the right position to start the round.

Your Gentle Ripples poncho is wonderful, but I ran into a problem on the 8th round. Can you take a look at the beginning of the round. Shouldn't you make sl st into the dc instead of the ch 2 space of the v-stitch?
Thanks

Chandra, I'm so happy you found me. I hope you enjoy the patterns, and don't hesitate to contact me if you have a question. I'll try to answer your questions.
 | | | Dot May 2, 2005 03:47 PM PDT
Chandra, your actually skipping the stitches and working in the spaces. I think. I'm confusing myself now. Sorry.
 | | | Chandra May 2, 2005 03:46 PM PDT
Oh, I almost had it. I should be working in the chain spaces only, not the worked stitches. This is working so much better! *Whew!*
(I had also wondered about that ch 1 at the end there, so thanks for clearing that up)
BTW, I found your site the day after you posted this pattern, so I'm a newbie here.

Hi Chandra, I'm rather fond of this one myself. Sorry round 26 is confusing, I did find an error and corrected it, in red. Let me try to make it more clear.
ROUND 26:
ch 1, sc in same st as join,
ch 1, sc in next sp
ch 1, sc in next sp
*ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in space of the V st,
ch 1, sc in next sp
ch 1, sc in next sp
ch 1, sc in next sp
ch 1, sc in next sp
Repeat from * around.
end with ch 1, join in first sc.
Let me know if this isn't any better and I'll have another go at it.
 | | | Chandra May 2, 2005 03:33 PM PDT
Okay, I think I get it! I'm supposed to be skipping the chain spaces and working scs only in the worked spaces, right? It fits the pattern of the previous row, anyway, and explains all the chains. LOL
 | | | Chandra May 2, 2005 02:54 PM PDT
Dot - I had to make this poncho as soon as I saw it (after finishing a few other projects - ha!). The color caught my fancy, so I'm making mine in "Cherry Red."
Anyway, I'm having trouble with the bottom edge (Round 26). It's curly and random-looking instead of flat and neat like your photo. Maybe I am reading the pattern incorrectly? I'm making a sc V stitch followed by 4 sc with chains in between each, and it just looks... odd.

Hi Karen,
You're right about the cbs taking 2 spaces and it cuts the numbers in half, but the total numbers in Round 1 is 78 if you count the cbs as a stitch and the ch-1 space as a stitch, so when you do round 2, you end up with 39 cbs.
Here's how you said you're doing the cbs:
"To make the CBS stitch, it says to pull thru 2 loops, then YO and go to the next space?? and pull thru all 5 loops."
That's not right. You shouldn't pull through any loops until you have 5 loops on the hook and then you yo and pull through all 5 loops and then chain 1. Here's the instructions again.
CBS - yo, insert hook in st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo insert hook in next st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook), yo draw thru all 5 loops on hook - crossed bar stitch made.
You're right about the cbs being a simple enough stitch and your going to smack yourself on the forehead when it clicks for you. If you still have trouble, email me at bythehook7647 at yahoo dot com and I'll work with you until we get this right. It's really a very easy pattern. Don't give up on it.

Hi...I love this pattern but am having a terrible time figuring out the CBS. Sounds simple enough but I must be doing something wrong. I can't come up with 39 CBS's like it calls for at the end of row 2!! To make the CBS stitch, it says to pull thru 2 loops, then YO and go to the next space?? and pull thru all 5 loops. That's simple enough but taking 2 spaces to make the CBS cuts the amount of of CBS's in half. What am I doing wrong??? Hope I've made myself clear! Help! ha ha Thanks so much!

Thank you, Sheila. Wow! I'm impressed, you make ponchos in #10 thread. I bet they are beautiful. I am too impatient to make anything from thread.
Sorry you're having problems printing the pattern, you're not the only one that's happened too. I'm not computer savvy enough to do anything about it, though. So here's what I tell people, highlight what you want printed, then click on file (in the upper left on your screen), then select print, and then when your printer popup menu comes up, choose "selection" before you select print. That will print just the pattern.
If you still have a problem printing out the pattern, send me an email by clicking on the CONTACT ME link on the front page, and tell me what pattern you need and I'll email it to you.

Hi; I just found your site, I too crochet up a storm. My mom taught me over 50 years ago. Now I am making some ponchos out of #10 cotton, I don't have a pattern, they are working out so far. Keeping my fingers crossed. I love your pattern diamonds and lace, how do I get that pattern to print. So far I have just the edges of the page printed. I don't find those helpful for instruction. LOL
Thanks.. | |

Thanks Ginger. I hope you'll share a picture of her wearing her poncho when you're done. I bet she'll look great in it.

This poncho is beautiful. When I saw it I knew I had to try this for my Daughter. I can almost see her in it. Thanks!

Thanks, Stephanie, that's really good to know. I try to write them up 1 step at a time so it's less confusing and easier to read.
