hey Dot,
your hat is the best thing I've experienced outside of commercial wear. My grilfriend made me the Owata hat to cover my dreadlocks for work. It lets my head breathe and keeps me warm in cold weather. Your hats rock.

i recently made this hat for both hubby and myself intentionally using a smaller hook than indicated. being as were trying to get into clowning, thus my name...i wanted to make it smaller than the original pattern. i will send you a pic as soon as i finish putting the finishing touches on it. ive been eyeballing a few of your other patters and as winter is coming up i may give it a whirl.

I made this hat in ww and solid lavender color. It is a beautiful stitch pattern, and was easy to follow. It turns out real full. If you don't have alot of hair to put in it, make less rows of the pattern stitch rows.

I made this hat and it is beautiful.
Used a ww in lavender, all this one color. The hat is definately for someone with alot of hair to put in it. I'm going to make another one and omit some rows that make it so big. I put 4 rows of decreasing sc around for a band to make it fit my head. Pattern is well written, didn't have one problem. Thanks for this
beautiful pattern!

Hi Jessica, after you make your last stitch in row 2, you will JOIN the round by doing a slip stitch in the 4th ch of the chain you made to start the round. I hope this is helps. Looking at your picture, I think you're doing it right so far. finish your round and see if you understand it when you get to the end. Let me know if you still need help and I'll be glad to try again.

Is that what row 2 should look like? I don't understand the 'Join in 4th st of starting ch' part after the three triple stitches.

Hi Jamette, Great looking hat. you did a wonderful job on it. I didn't do a very good job of writing this pattern up and explaining the color changes. I think what you are talking about is a row of black or some other dark color between each color change.

I am thinking however, that I may not have it quite right because I don't have that great design in the color change that you do. Can you tell me how you get that.

This hat is going to be pretty warm if you make it using the worsted weight yarn. Also, I think my patterns work up smaller for some people for some reason, so you might want to try a larger hook. Good luck.

Hi Dot!

I think your hat is the answer to my prayers! I have a large head w/ poofy hair and every pattern I've tried thus far have been too small *blush*

Do you think this would be too warm for Summer?

Thank you, Hannah.

When you started row 2 you did a chain 5. That represents the first treble crochet and chain 1.

In row 2 you did 2 treble crochets, then a chain 1, and then 2 treble crochets. Ch-1 space refers to the space made by the chain 1 between the trebles.

Here's how you would do row 3:

Ch 1, single crochet in same stitch as join.

Single crochet in the space between the join and the next treble crochet.

Single crochet in the next 2 treble crochets.

Single crochet in the space made by the chain one on row 2

Single crochet in the next 2 treble crochets.

If you are placing a single crochet in each chain 1 space and in each treble crochet around, your piece should lay flat.

Let me know how it's going.

Hello Dot. I love your patterns. I am having a hard time with the Owata hat but I am having some trouble with row 3 "ch 1, sc in same st, (sc in next ch 1 sp, sc in next 2 tr) around. Join in 1st sc. (36 sts)" I am not understanding what you mean by the sc in ch 1 sp. I tried it but I guess I didn't understand because the center wouldn't lay flat. If you could please help me I would really appreciate it!!
Thanks so much
Dot
