Materials: M hook, Red Heart Super Saver yarn, approximately 8 oz

Pattern is worked holding 2 strands of yarn together

Gauge – 4 dc = 2" and 2 rows = 2"

Abbreviations used:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
ea – each
sl st – slip stitch

Note 1: ch 2 does not count as a stitch
Note 2: when joining rounds, skip over the beginning chain and join in the first "real" stitch.
Note 3: for a longer scarf, keep working in rows until scarf is as long as you want.

ROW 2 thru 40: dc in ea st across. ch 2, turn at the end of ea row. (12 dc)

The next row is worked as a round as follows: crochet in the back loops all the way across. When you get to the end, do not turn, skip the beginning ch 2, then, continue on the same round by crocheting in the front loops of the same row.

ROW 41: ch 2, work in back loop only, dc in ea st across. Do not turn at end of row, skip ch 2, dc in front loops of ea stitch around. Join with a sl st in first dc. Ch 2, turn(24 dc)

Thanks for this pattern! I was looking for a hat/scarf combo that I really liked for my daughter and this worked great! I just changed the hook to a smaller one so that it would fit a child's head. I can't believe how quickly it went together :) Now my oldest son wants one along with some of his friends *G*

You're right Laura, that would be quite a thrill to see one of my patterns on the label of the yarn or featured in one of the pamphlets. Maybe someday.

Dot, I said Coats & Clark because I made an afghan 20 yrs ago out of Red Heart yarn and it still looks really good plus I seem to see that brand everywhere. Yikes 20 yrs ago!! Just thought you could make some money selling the patterns to the Red Heart people. How cool for you to see one of your patterns right with the yarn :) You are creative!!

Hi Laura, I've contacted Coats and Clark and they only want patterns that have never been seen before, and since I post all my patterns here, I don't have any to offer them. I'm curious, though, what about this pattern made you think of Coats and Clark?

Have you thought of submitting your patterns to Coats & Clark? This would be a good one to submit!!!

Thank you, Flowers. You'll be glad you decided to try something different. When I finally took the plunge from afghans to clothing, a hat was my first project and once I found out how satisfying it was to finish a project in a few hours instead of a few days or weeks, I was hooked.

I always seem to forget something, this time it was the yarn used and the amount. OK, I used Red Heart Super Saver in the 8 oz skeins. The finished hat weighs 7 oz.
