BABY SHORT ROUND PONCHO

BABY SHORT ROUND PONCHO
copyright © 10/09/04 Dot Matthews
Chelle's baby poncho

This is Chelle's version of the Short Round Poncho. The picture shown is Chelle's finished baby outfit. She added the rose embellishment and made a matching headband. She has graciously allowed me to post her changes and her picture. You can find the headband instructions at the end of this pattern, compliments of Chelle of Luv to Crochet, but I'm afraid you're on your own for the rose embellishment. Thank you, Chelle, this is beautiful.

CHELLE'S HEADBAND

For the headband, K hook, I did:

Ch 8

Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook, (ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch) to end, ch 4 (counts
as first dc plus ch 1) , turn

Row 2: crossed bar st in first and next ch sp, ch 1, crossed bar st in same sp and in next ch
sp, ch 1, dc in last sc, ch 4, turn

Row 3: Repeat row 2 until headband measures desired length before stretching.

Headband will stretch about an inch to fit also. At the end of your last crossed bar st row,

ch 1, turn

Last Row: sc in each st and sp across (7 sc)

Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing. Sew ends of headband together. Sew on crocheted

flower or rose as desired to finish the look.

Hi Barbara, This baby poncho is an adaptation of my pattern and was done by Chelle. She gave me permission to post her version here. I'm not good at changing sizes either, but I'd recommend you use a thin baby yarn and a small hook, a F or G. I don't think you would need to adjust the stitches.
Good luck with your poncho.

Dot,

I'm wanting to make the poncho and headband for a friend who is expecting her baby next month. I noticed your pattern is for 12-18 months. Would you please tell me what changes I need to make to adapt this pattern for a new born? I'm a fairly new crocheter so I haven't learned how to alter a pattern to fit my needs.

Thanks for all your wonderful patterns. Whenever I want to make something I always come to your site first!

Hi snkls. I sent you an email. You can adjust this pattern without making any changes to the stitch count. When you do the first row, if it fits over her head, just finish the pattern as is, until it's as long as you want it and then add the trim rows. Let me know how it works out for you.

Not sure if my posts have been received. I LOVE the baby round poncho and would love to make it for my 4 year old granddaughter. How can I increase the size? I am somewhat new to crochet. Would I just increase the beginning chain row? If so by approx how many?

Thank you,
Snkls

This is so charming. You can make this in so many colors. In our extended family, we have a new girl to the family and she will look just darling in this. Her mother is only 19 too and this will be nice to make for this young mom and her daughter, Liliana, born in October,2004 and she can have in to grow into. Thank you for this lovely pattern. This is also a nice pattern to make and donate to the charities who can use this also. Thank you for all the special joys you have created and posted for us.
I am really looking forward to this year with all of the gifts you have given us which enrich our lives.Thank you Dot.
