FROM WIP TO WIL TO PONCHO

DOOVER - a poncho by Dot
copyright 092904 Dot Matthews
 doover ponchcloseup
Materials: ww yarn, a little over 16 oz
K hook
Size: I'm guessing this will fit a child aged 10 to 12.
Amount of yarn is approximate. I weighed the poncho after completion and it was a titch over 16 oz. I recycled a WIP and didn't have any labels to refer to.
Poncho is done in 2 panels that are each 16 ½ inches x 27 inches.

Specialty stitch
Berry Stitch…Insert hook in st, pull up a loop, (yo, draw thru 1 loop on hook) 3 times, yo, draw thru last 2 loops on hook to complete.

Note 1: turning chains do not count as a stitch.
Note 2: numbers in ( ) at end of row depicts number of stitches for the row.

Make 2 panels

ROW 1: ch 78, sc in 2nd st from hook, ch 1, sk 1, sc in next st across. (77 sts, count ch 1 spaces and sc's) Ch 1, turn

ROW 2: sc in each sc and in each ch-1 space across. (77 sts) Ch 2, turn

ROW 3: Hdc in first st, (ch 3, sk 3 sts, Hdc in next st) across. (19 ch-3 spaces) Ch 1, turn

ROW 4: sc in first st, (3 sc over ch-3 sp, sc in next st) across. (77 sts) Ch 1, turn

ROW 5: sc in first st, (ch 1, sk 1 st, sc in next st) across. (77 sts) Ch 1, turn

ROW 6: sc in first st, Berry Stitch in next st, sc in next st, across (77 sts, count berry stitch and sc's) Ch 1, turn

Berry Stitch…Insert hook in st, pull up a loop, (yo, draw thru 1 loop on hook) 3 times, yo, draw thru last 2 loops on hook to complete.

ROW 7: sc in each st across. (77 sts) Ch 2, turn

ROW 8: Hdc in first st, (ch 3, sk 3 sts, Hdc in next st) across. (19 ch-3 spaces) Ch 1, turn

ROW 9: sc in first st, (3 sc over ch-3 sp, sc in next st) across. (77 sts) Ch 1, turn

ROW 10: sc in each st across. (77 sts) Ch 2, turn

ROW 11: sc in first st, (ch 1, sk 1 st, sc in next st) across. (77 sts) Ch 1, turn

ROW 12: sc in first st, Berry Stitch in next st, sc in next st, across (77 sts, count berry stitch and sc's) Ch 1, turn

Berry Stitch…Insert hook in st, pull up a loop, (yo, draw thru 1 loop on hook) 3 times, yo, draw thru last 2 loops on hook to complete.

Repeat Rows 7 thru 12 until there are 7 berry stitch rows (or size needed), ending with Repeat row 7 thru 10 once more.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Assemble poncho by sewing narrow side to long side, fold into poncho shape and sew the other narrow side to the other long side.

I started your "For a Lark Poncho" from the crochet calendar (9-16-06). For one rectangle it shows 11 rows. How often do you repeat these rows?

Hi Barb, you're welcome. I hope you enjoy my patterns. I can't wait to hear which one you decided to do. Way to go on you crochet for charity. It's a wonderful thing to do.

Thanks for sharing your patterns. I have always liked ponchos and shawls and my interest got renewed when I saw Martha S, step on to the plane with that poncho. I do crocheting and knitting for two organizations - baby blankets mostly and also burial blankets. I can hardly wait to start a poncho or two for me. I will be in touch again and let you know which one I do.

Hi Dot,
I just love your patterns. I've started the Gentle Ripples poncho for myself. For some reason I keep messing up & having to frog. I do think it will be lovely when it's finished & it'll be easier to make more when I'm more familiar with the stitch patterns.
I just adore the pattern,
Bev

Hi Susan, this is Dot. I get called Pat alot by mistake. It's OK, I think I know who you're talking to. lol
I don't have any new hats but I've posted 3 poncho patterns recently. Did you see them? I'm so sorry about your grandson. Your contributions to the hospital is such a wonderful thing to do and I'm honored that you are choosing to use my patterns for such a good cause. How lovely to be thought of as one of God's Angels. Thank you.

I Want to thank you once again for sharing your patterns. You must be one of God's angels here on earth

Hi April, me too! lol I don't have a pattern but someone posted a formula for figuring out the size the panels should be. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounded reasonable to me.
Here it is:
1/2 your head size
plus the length from your wrist to your neck = length of panel
wrist to neck = width

You could use my pattern as a guide and make 2 panels to your own measurements and it should fit. Let me know how it goes.

My short round poncho will fit up to a 2 or 3 x I believe. I'm a 2x and it fits me with room to spare. You could make it longer so it fits your needs.

Thank you, Teri. It's good to know I'm not the only one to recycle.

How cute this is! And how imaginative you are to recycle! I have so much yarn where I would start something and hate the pattern, so I finally started using some of it up instead of buying more!
