SO SIMPLE WIMPLE
copyright © 091704 Dot Matthews

Materials:
L hook for chain
K hook for pattern
ww yarn, 5 oz approximately
gauge: not important
Ch 90, join in 1st ch to form a ring. Be careful not to twist chain.
ROW 1: ch 1, sc in same st as join, ch 1, (sk 1 st, sc in next st, ch 1) around, join in first sc. (45 ch-1 spaces and 45 sc)
ROW 2: turn, (sc in ch-1 space, ch 1) around. Join in first sc. (45 ch-1 spaces and 45 sc)
ROW 3 through 57: repeat row 2. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note 1: when turning your work, do not ch 1
Note 2: it's not really necessary to count rows, just continue until piece fits the way you like it.
TIP: If you're worried about the chain twisting, replace the beginning chain and row 1 with this... ch 91, sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, sk 1 st, (sc in next st, ch 1, sk next st) across, join in first sc and continue with row 2. A simple stitch when you weave in ends will close the small gap that this will leave.

Oi! I made the last post there. I meant LACEY not lazy.. lol
Silly me.. so sorry..
I should be more careful about my typos. *blush*
Thanks again for the lovely pattern! :D

Thanks so much for all your wonderful patterns..
I really love this wimple pattern and I was wondering if you'd ever be interested in also making a lazy (maybe even lighter) version? Perhaps with a lacey type edging on one end of the tube so you can wear it with the lace at the neck or around the face?
In the meantime this one is making my crochet to-do list. ;)

Your patterns are great, Dot. I found the Wimple pattern in the 2006 Crochet-Pattern-A-Day Calendar. I do have question about it, if you happen to see this. In the calendar, it says to start with the fun fur, but in the picture, it looks like you did the trim last. Which was it? The pattern still looks good doing it as the calendar says to do it, but I just wondered, because I like the way the picture looks a little better, I think.

Hi Amber, glad you like this pattern. I bet it'll be real pretty with the yarn you choose.

I have been looking for a wimple to cover up my hair and protect it from winter wind and cold that involved no sewing. I'm so glad that someone far more talented than myself not only created one, but shared the pattern for free. That is so beautiful of you! I'm going to try using the thick chenille type yarn for extra warmth and a velvety look.

Thank you, Pam. I'm glad you like my patterns. I get a lot of pleasure from sharing them with everyone. I don't think you'll need to decrease around the face. I like it to drape loosely. It will depend on how you like it to fit. I did not decrease mine at all. Let me know how yours turns out. I'd love to see a picture when you're done.

Hi Dot! You have a totally awesome site ... you are so talented!! And you must have a heart the size of Dallas to share all of these great patterns with us for free!! Thank you! I especially love the Wimple (ok, I LOVE them all, but decided to start with this one first!) ... when you made yours out of Homespun, did you still make it the same size and with the same size hook? I've got one started and used a "N" ... but I'm thinking now I might need to do some decreasing around the face. Did you need to decrease with yours? Thanks and Merry Christmas!!

Hi Noreen,
Hugs to your sister, I'm so sorry she's sick. I hope she has a speedy and complete recovery. I really don't think you'll need to adjust this pattern to get a good fit for your sister.

Hey Dot, I am going to work the wimple for my sister Pat, who is undergoing Chemo and hates to wear hats. She lives in Rochester NY so she has little choice. She's just a little-bit now and was wondering if you think I should adjust the pattern at all. Thanks, I believe this is just what the doctor ordered.

Thanks Karen. I'm glad you were able to adjust the pattern to your needs, and I'd love to see a picture, but you forgot to leave the url.

Echoing what others have said before, the So Simple Wimple is just that. And it is easily customizable, as needed - especially for me as I don't really follow patterns too faithfully.
The link I supplied has a picture of me in my first wimple. Thanks for your generosity.

Thank you Nance. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I hope she has an easy time in her therapy and I wish her a speedy recovery.
The wimple is very easy to do and it "dresses up" very nicely. I've done it in homespun and trimmed it around the face with a fun fur type yarn. I forget what I used now, but it's beautiful.

I would also like the crochet pattern for the fun fur scarf. My boss just received one for her birthday and I loved it. Thought it would be nice for christmas gifts next year. Hers was like 4 to 5" wide and went down to her hips when around her neck. Please e-mail with the pattern if one is there. Thank you.
