Hi Dot, I am very very new at crocheting and so much appreciate your website of patterns. Your projects are wonderful (modern, easy, etc). I have one question: I am not able to view some of the pattern photo images and the message says to go to "my account" for the correct link. Can you please give me a bit of direction on this? Thank you so much for any clue. Happy crocheting! Janie

Dot, I'm so glad to have found your great pattern site!! I love hats, and you have created so many to choose from. Your instructions are so clear that even I, a novice, can follow them. I just completed the Sassy Child's hat and am most pleased with the finished product. Thank you for sharing your talents.

Hi Carol, I'm going to attach an url to a circumference calculator I use all the time. Enter your head size in the circumference block and that will give you the radius you need. Make the increase part of the hat until it measures the same as the radius when you measure across the center, then move on the the sides of the hat. Hope this helps.

I really want to try the Sassy hat for myself but my head measures more like 20 1/2 or 21 inches - too small for the adult size and too big for the child size. I'm fairly new at crochet so inexperienced with adjusting patterns to fit. Also, I've never made a hat before. Can you give me an idea of how and where to adjust the size? Thanks!

Hi WS, I'm sorry you're having a problem with this hat. Trust me, it's not you. The size on this pattern is wrong. I'll change it immediately. I hope you're not too discouraged by this.

I can't get this one to work consistently. My first one came out wrong and ever since, I've been trying to reproduce the error. It made the cutest little toddler-sized beach hat. The brim didn't stand out (yes, I remembered to do the BLO round :-) ). maybe the yarn was too soft. Since then I've made several more but they all seem a little different. None have been bigger than toddler-sized, though I've used the required hooks and yarn.

Hi Linda, I think the cotton will work just fine. It's about the same size as the worsted weight yarn, isn't it? Strange about crochet hurting your eyes and knitting not. I wonder if it has anything to do with trying to read the crochet patterns. Good luck with your hats.

used to crochet but it hurts my eyes, but just finished a shawl in crochet (oh my eyes). i am trying to learn how to knit, have made a bunch of scarves, knitting doesn't hurt my eyes for some reason. when i saw the sassy hat i want to make one for my daughter and me. (yes, me is correct) - even though it is crochet. can i use the lion brand kitchen cotton to make it?

Hi Diana, I'm sorry the hat turned out too small the first time, but I'm glad you adjusted it to fit. Wrong color, huh? Sometimes we just can't win. I'd love to see pictures when you finally get the color right. lol

Hi,Dot. I really like your hats. A few days ago I made the SASSY hat for my youngest daughter. I made it exactly by the pattern but it was too small for her. So, I will give it to my granddaughter. Anyway, I added 5 rows to the hat and 3 rows to the brim. Fits her perfectly. But guess what! IT'S THE WRONG COLOR,Mom!!!!!Being the youngest and a redhead and a brat I guess I should have expected it. LOL Anyway please keep designing. I really love your patterns

Thank you, Betty. I only used one strand of Red Heart Super Saver worsted weight when I made this one.

Love all your hats!! Haven't made this one yet but was wondering if it uses more than one strand of yarn held together.
